Unlike many state parks whose purpose is to provide a wide variety of recreational experiences or to preserve historic sites, Point Lobos was acquired primarily to preserve its rare and scenic beauty and unusual landscape. The natural conditions of Point Lobos make it necessary for teachers to provide close supervision of their students at all times. Point Lobos is the perfect local for students to observe marine mammals in the natural enviroment, study the various habitats and their unique flora and fauna, or visit the Whalers Cabin Museum and learn about the different people who lived at Point Lobos.
